Eight of Swords (Minchiate Deck)

This playing card features eight swords with blue blades, gold cross-guards, and red hilts, positioned in a cross-hatched pattern. At the top center, a small, nude, horned figure with goat-like legs is seated upon a floating red circular shape, holding a circular object in one hand. At the base, a textured, dark-grey hedgehog is depicted in profile, resting on a small, pale green grassy mound. The entire scene is framed by a decorative stippled border.

The Minchiate deck is a 17th-century Florentine expansion of the traditional Tarot, incorporating astrological and cosmological elements. The inclusion of the hedgehog and the satyr-like figure reflects the deck's departure from standard Tarot iconography toward a more eclectic, ludic, and sometimes bestiary-influenced symbolism.
