13. And the word of the Lord came to me a second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, A boiling cauldron, and its face is from the face of the north.

14. And the Lord said to me, From the north shall evils be kindled upon all the inhabitants of the land.

15. For behold, I will call all the kingdoms of the earth from the north, saith the Lord; and they shall come and shall set each his throne at the entrances of the gates of Jerusalem, and upon all the walls round about it, and upon all the cities of Judah.

16. And I will speak with them in judgment, concerning all their wickedness, how they forsook me, and sacrificed to foreign gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.

17. And thou, gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak all that I shall command thee; do not fear their faces, nor be dismayed before them, for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord.

18. Behold, I have set thee this day as a fortified city, and as a wall of brass, strong against all the kings of Judah, and against his princes, and against the people of the land.

19. And they shall fight against thee, and they shall not prevail against thee, for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord.

CH. 2.

1. AND he said, Thus saith the Lord,

2. I remembered the mercy of thy youth, and the love of thy betrothal, that thou shouldest follow after the Holy One of Israel, saith the Lord.

3. The Holy One of Israel is to the Lord, the firstfruits of his increase; all who eat him shall commit sin, evil shall come upon them, saith the Lord.

4. Hear the word of the Lord, O house of Jacob, and every family of the house of Israel.

5. Thus saith the Lord, What fault did your fathers find in me, that they went far from me, and walked after vanity, and became vain?

6. And they did not say, Where is the Lord, who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, who led us through the desert, in a land trackless and impassable, in a land waterless and barren, in a land in which no man traveled, and where no man dwelt?

7. And I brought you into Carmel, to eat its fruits and its good things; and you entered and defiled my land, and made my inheritance an abomination.

8. The priests did not say, Where is the Lord? And they that held the law knew me not, and the shepherds sinned against me, and the prophets prophesied by
