25 Your iniquities have turned these away, and your sins have kept good things from you.

26 For ungodly men were found in my people, and they set traps to destroy men, and they catch them.

27 As a cage standing full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit; therefore they have become great, and have become rich,

28 And they have transgressed judgment; they did not judge the cause of the orphan, and the cause of the widow they did not judge.

29 Shall I not visit them for these things? saith the Lord; or shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation?

30 A terrible and shocking thing has happened on the earth.

31 The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests have clapped their hands, and my people have loved it so; and what will you do in the aftermath?

CHAP. 6. 6.

1 STRENGTHEN yourselves, O sons of Benjamin, from the midst of Jerusalem, and in Tekoa sound the trumpet, and lift up a sign over Beth-haccherem, for evil has looked out from the North, and a great destruction is coming;

2 And the height shall be taken away, O daughter of Zion.

3 Pastors and their flocks shall come to her; and they shall pitch tents around her, and each one shall feed in his own hand.

4 Prepare yourselves against her for war; arise, and let us go up at noon; woe to us, for the day has declined, for the shadows of the day are failing.

5 Arise, and let us go up by night, and let us destroy her foundations.

6 For thus saith the Lord, Cut down her trees, cast up a mound against Jerusalem; O false city, oppression is all within her.

7 As a well keeps water cool, so she keeps her wickedness cool; ungodliness and misery shall be heard in her upon her face continually; with labor and scourge.

8 Be disciplined, Jerusalem, lest my soul depart from thee, lest I make thee a desolate land, which shall not be inhabited.

9 For thus saith the Lord, Glean, glean as a vine the remnants of Israel; turn back as a grape-gatherer to his basket.

10 To whom shall I speak, and testify, and he will listen? Behold, their ears are uncircumcised, and they shall not be able to hear; behold, the word of the Lord has become to them a reproach, they will not want it.
