Chap. 6.
with it, and stay, and I will not finish them; I will pour it out upon the infants outside, and upon the gathering of young men together, for man and woman shall be taken, the elder with the full of days.
12 And their houses shall be turned over to others, their fields and their wives together; for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of this land, saith the Lord.
13 For from their least even to their greatest, everyone has completed lawless acts; from the priest even to the false prophet, everyone has wrought falsely.
14 And they healed the breach of my people, despising and saying, Peace, peace; and where is peace?
15 They were ashamed, because they failed; and they were not even ashamed as those who are ashamed, and their disgrace they did not know; therefore they shall fall in their falling, and in the time of visitation they shall perish, said the Lord.
16 Thus saith the Lord, Stand upon the ways, and see, and ask for the eternal paths of the Lord; and see which is the good way, and walk in it, and you shall find purification for your souls; and they said, We will not walk in it.
17 I have set watchmen over you: Listen to the sound of the trumpet; and they said, We will not listen.
18 Therefore the nations have heard, and those who feed their flocks.
19 Hear, O earth, behold I am bringing evils upon this people, the fruit of their turning away, for they have not heeded my words, and my law they have rejected.
20 Why do you bring me frankincense from Sheba, and cinnamon from a land far away? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable, and your sacrifices have not pleased me.
21 Therefore thus saith the Lord, Behold I am giving upon this people weakness, and fathers and sons shall be weak together, the neighbor and his companion shall perish.
22 Thus saith the Lord, Behold a people comes from the North, and nations shall be stirred up from the ends of the earth.
23 They shall hold bow and javelin; it is fierce, and shall not show mercy; its voice is as the roaring sea; they shall ride on horses and chariots, arrayed as fire for war, against thee, O daughter of Zion.
24 We have heard the report of them, our hands were loosened, distress has taken hold of us, pangs as of a woman in labor.
25 Do not go out into the field, and in the ways do not walk, because the sword of the enemy dwells on every side.
26 O daughter of my people, gird thyself with sackcloth, sprinkle thyself with ashes, make for thyself a mourning for a beloved one, a bitter lamentation, because
