"And no one original: "no man" stood with him while Joseph made himself known to his brothers" signifies that no such pieces of knowledge were present when the celestial internal, through the intermediary original: "medium", joined original: "conjoined" itself to truths in the natural level of the mind.
"And he wept aloud original: "gave forth his voice in weeping"" signifies mercy and joy; "and the Egyptians heard" signifies [this extension reached] even to the lowest levels original: "ultimates"; "and the house of Pharaoh heard" signifies through the entire natural mind.
5869. Then Joseph could not restrain original: "contain" himself before all those original: "them" who stood by him. This signifies that everything was now prepared original: "made ready" by the celestial internal for union original: "conjunction." This is evident from the representation of Joseph as internal good (see numbers 5805, 5826, 5827), and thus the celestial internal—for by "the celestial" is meant the good that proceeds from the Lord; and from the meaning original: "signification" of not being able to restrain himself, which is that everything was prepared for union.
For when a person prepares themselves with the greatest effort original: "application" for some goal original: "end" or result original: "effect" by collecting and arranging the means that lead to it, then once everything is prepared, they can no longer restrain themselves. This is what the words above mean; for the previous chapter dealt with the beginning stages original: "initiation" of union, but this chapter deals with the union itself (see number 5867). By "all those who stood by him" are signified things that hinder original: "impede" union, which is why they were cast out, as described in what follows.
