Although Paracelsus explains many more magnificent mysteriesoriginal: "mysteria"; refers to hidden spiritual or natural truths in this little book—concerning the four elementsEarth, Air, Fire, and Water, concerning mankind, and concerning good and evil spirits, etc.—I shall nevertheless leave them all uncounted here, for the little book is clear and intelligible enough on its own.
However, since I have never forgotten the friendship and inclined goodwill that Your Excellence showed me in Strasbourg several years ago, I have allowed this little book to be released in public print under Your Excellence's name. Firstly, so that I may show myself grateful toward Your Excellence; and also, because this subject matter will, by virtue of your station, undoubtedly be more dear and pleasant to Your Excellence than other laborsoriginal: "labores"; refers to academic or professional works.
