It is well worth considering that Theophrastus Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim, better known as Paracelsus (1493–1541), the famous physician and alchemist. bids us to learn wisdom in this little book, and that he speaks no word in it in vain.
It is therefore my most humble request to Your Excellencies original: "E. E." or Euer Excellenz, a formal address to the authorities or patrons to whom the book is dedicated. that you might accept my good intentions in the best possible light, and allow your Theophrastus to be commended to your care. May Your Excellencies' noble spirit and the love which you have shown toward all good arts until now also be felt toward the Writings original: "Scriptis" of Theophrastus.
