I have read, by order of My Lord the Keeper of the Seals, The Keeper of the Seals (Garde des Sceaux) was the head of the French judicial system and the office of censorship. Every book published legally in France at this time required his department's oversight. a Manuscript entitled: Book that Escaped the Flood, or Newly Discovered Psalms, original: "Livre échappé au Deluge, ou Pseaumes nouvellement découvertes" by M. Maréchal, Editor: this work, written in his own unique style, breathes with sentiment and can only serve to call back to Religion those who are furthest from it. It is a satisfying testimony to the talents and good principles of the Author. The Abbé de Reyrac, François-Philippe de Laurens de Reyrac (1734–1782) was a famous French cleric and poet celebrated for his "Hymns to the Sun." Comparing Maréchal to him was a high literary compliment at the time. whose loss the world of literature mourns, distinguished himself with Hymns that posterity will always love to read; M. Maréchal announces himself as a worthy rival through Psalms that deserve no less attention from religious readers of good taste. Furthermore, I have found nothing in it that should prevent its printing. In Paris, this 23rd of July, 1784.
