The exterior of this volume is protected by a binding of stiff boards covered in marbled paperMarbling is a decorative method where colored pigments are floated on a liquid surface and then transferred to paper, resulting in patterns that mimic natural stone or sponges.. The paper features a pattern of grey and charcoal tones, a style commonly found on account books, ledgers, and personal manuscripts from the late 18th and 19th centuries.
The surface demonstrates the history of the object's use, showing significant staining, general wear, and fading. There is a substantial loss of the decorative paper along the spine and the corners, which exposes the underlying material of the binding boards. No titles, dates, or identifying inscriptions are visible on the front of the volume.
