certainty that comes very close to truth; and therefore it may rightfully be called a new System. He had already, in the Spectacle of Nature original: "Schouwtoneel der Natuur," referring to the famous work Le Spectacle de la nature by Noël-Antoine Pluche, in the letter with which the third part ends (which in Dutch original: "Neederduitſch" will be the sixth volume), brought together a great number of proofs from sacred and secular original: "geweide en ongeweide," literally consecrated and unconsecrated writers who seem to confirm this point; the reader will be able to consult them there and compare them with this work, in which he treats it more extensively and makes it essentially the foundation of his reasoning on the subjects of the first part. The origin of the names of the signs of the Zodiac original: "Dier-kring," literally 'animal circle' may also be called a new System; it commends itself for its clarity, precise correspondence, and simplicity. Whoever would wish to call the Treatise original: "Verhandeling" of such matters, in such a manner as our learned Author—whose upright intention shines through everywhere—a "dry subject," must in my opinion have dry thoughts. I believe that no work of this kind can be found that is more useful and necessary,
