In the 17th century, "physics" referred to natural philosophy—the study of the laws of nature, which included chemistry, biology, and alchemy.—which was formerly sent from India—now explained more fully in several places. Whether it suits your palate or not matters little to me. I have written the truth for the honor of God and the benefit of my neighbor; I have set down no words that experience, both repeated and most clear, has not dictated to me. For this reason, the "popular breeze" original: "aura popularis." A classical idiom referring to public opinion or the fickle nature of fame. does not sway my mind.
I ask you, however, who read this little book original: "Libellum.", to read it without any prejudice. Otherwise, you may deprive yourself of the desired fruits and rob me of the joy I hoped for in bringing aid to one who wanders in error. As soon as an end has been placed upon my travels by the grace of God, and my curious soul finds some measure of rest, I shall fulfill my promises by sharing a true and unheard-of Physics.
In the meantime, make use of these present writings, and follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ—the universal fountain of true Wisdom original: "Sapientiae."—if you desire to possess the name and the reputation original: "nomen & omen." A Latin wordplay suggesting that the name "Philosopher" should truly reflect the person's character and destiny. of a Philosopher.
