Although I have, through GOD'S grace, sufficiently proven in my other writings that the Roman Emperor is the Beast In apocalyptic literature, the "Beast" refers to a worldly power that persecutes the faithful; here, the author specifically identifies it with the Holy Roman Emperor. and the Roman Pope is the Whore upon the Beast A reference to the "Whore of Babylon" from the Book of Revelation. In 17th-century Protestant polemics, this was a common—albeit inflammatory—label for the Papacy., there are still, and may yet be found, certain fellows who do not understand even the least of the Mysteries of God original: Geheimnußen Gottes; refers to the hidden meanings of biblical prophecy.. These people interpret the Beast and the Whore differently and obscure the right truth with their own understanding—especially the Jesuits A Catholic religious order known for their intellectual defense of the Pope and their role as advisors to Catholic monarchs like the Emperor., who certainly will not want to tolerate the claim that the Roman Pope is the Whore and the Roman Empire (or rather, the Roman Emperor) is the Beast which blasphemes God and His tabernacle, along with those who dwell in heaven, and which destroys, overcomes, and kills His saints. First, we shall take up the Beast, and then the Whore.

As for what concerns our need to prove irrefutably—especially against the Papists A derogatory term for Roman Catholics.—that it is indeed the Roman Empire, with its Papal Emperor original: Pâbstischen Keyser; implying the Emperor is a tool or servant of the Pope’s agenda., that is the Beast, we must not merely try to persuade the Papists out of our own heads.
