Seduced and disunited brethren, there are two grand witches in the world that seduce the souls of the simple and lead them to perdition: Lying wonders and Counterfeit zeal. The power of these two, the spirit of God has most vividly expressed to us: one in the person of Simon Magus the sorcerer, who with his lying wonders had so bewitched the simple people that they followed him with this acclamation: "This man is the power of the great and mighty GOD." The other in the person of some of the Corinthians, who by the feigned zeal of the counterfeit Apostles were bewitched and carried away from Saint Paul, the true and blessed Apostle of our Savior Christ. These two witching powers have many years since combined and united themselves in the Pope of Rome and his disciples, who take upon them the sovereign power of our Savior Christ, with authority to command unclean spirits and make them obey. They pretend such a burning, holy zeal toward you that they regard neither the pleasures, profits, nor promotions of this world—nay, not even their own liberty and lives—but offer them both up as a sacrifice for your souls' consolation. These are mighty powers to sway your judgments and affections from us to them. Now, if it shall appear to you as clear as the light of the sun that these powers are feigned and counterfeit in them, and that they are, in truth, nothing else but the mists and illusions of Satan to dim...
