A rectangular bookplate features a woodcut-style illustration. It depicts a phoenix rising from a pyre of flames and thick smoke. Water jets are directed at the fire from below. Below the illustration, within the same border, is a German inscription. The artist's name, F. Staeger, is visible in the bottom right corner of the frame.
