...and principles must be emanations original: "emanations." Things that flow out from a source; in this context, the idea that all things are outgrowths of the One Reality. from that One and, consequently, "of" it. Some might object that the creeds teaching a personal God do not hold this view, for they teach that their God is the creator of the universe, which He has set apart from Himself as a craftsman sets aside his handiwork. But this objection carries no weight, for where could such a creator obtain the material for His universe except from Himself? Where would the energy come from except from the same source? And where would Life come from, unless from His own "One Life"? So in the end, it is seen that there must be only One—not two—even if we prefer the terms "God" and "His universe." For even in this case, the universe must have proceeded from God and can only live, move, act, and think by virtue of His essence permeating it.
In reviewing the ideas of various thinkers, we are struck by the fact that the different schools seem to manifest a one-sidedness in their theories, seeing only what fits their arguments and ignoring the rest. The Materialist A follower of materialism, the theory that physical matter is the only reality. talks about infinite and eternal matter, although the latest scientific investigations have shown us matter fading into nothingness. The "eternal atom" is being split into countless particles called corpuscles original: "corpuscles." An early 20th-century term for subatomic particles, now known as electrons. or electrons, which at the last seem to be nothing but a unit of electricity tied up in a "knot in the ether" original: "Ether." A substance once hypothesized by scientists to fill all space and act as the medium for the transmission of light and energy.—although science does not dare to guess just what the ether is. And energy, also, seems to be unthinkable except as it operates through matter, and it always seems to be acting under the operation of laws—and laws without a...
