The idea of "mastery" inevitably carries with it the notion of dominion, power, or supremacy exercised by some person or thing regarded as the "master." The spirit and essence of the term "master" is that of "governor, ruler, director, leader, manager, or controller." In short, the essential meaning of the two terms, "master" and "mastery," is bound up with the idea of "government." To "govern" anything, the governing authority must regulate, direct, restrain, manage, encourage, and exercise general control.
