Dr. Abercrombie on Medicine page 49. original: "p. xlix." Dr. John Abercrombie (1780–1844) was a prominent Scottish physician and philosopher known for his works on the brain and mental pathology.
Dr. John Barclay of Edinburgh, the author of "Life and Organization," page 35, etc. Dr. John Barclay (1758–1826) was a Scottish anatomist. His work "An Inquiry into the Opinions, Ancient and Modern, Concerning Life and Organization" (1822) explored the nature of the "vital principle."

Lord Monboddo, Spiritual Philosophy, page 43. James Burnett, Lord Monboddo (1714–1799), was a Scottish judge and philosopher who wrote extensively on the evolution of language and the nature of the mind and spirit.
