Animal Magnetism: Also known as Mesmerism, this was a 18th and 19th-century theory proposing that an invisible natural force or "fluid" existed within living beings and could be manipulated for healing and altered states of consciousness.
John Campbell Colquhoun (1785–1854) was a Scottish lawyer and writer who became one of the primary proponents of Mesmerism in Britain.
