The reader who is familiar with this subject will undoubtedly notice some repetitions that might have been avoided. I hope they will forgive this for the sake of less advanced students, for whom it is sometimes helpful to have the different implications of the same facts explained.
In the Introduction and Notes, I have tried to make the book less about theory and more about facts. While some theorizing is necessary and should not be avoided, I trust that I have always stated the facts upon which any conclusion is based. I have also indicated the sources of information so that readers are positioned to judge the conclusions for themselves.
I am fully aware that in editing a work of this complex nature original: "composite character", there must be many faults and failures. I will be very thankful to have these pointed out and to receive suggestions and criticisms from anyone interested in the subject.
In conclusion, I must offer my best thanks to Professor Bickell of Innsbruck for kindly sending me a pamphlet of his, which is otherwise unavailable original: "unattainable" and has been very useful to me; to the Rev. S. C. Malan, vicar of Broadwindsor, for generously allowing me to reprint his entire translation of the Armenian Liturgy Armenian Liturgy The ancient Christian worship service used by the Armenian Apostolic Church.; to the Rev. R. D. Blackmore for his equally kind permission to use his work; and not least of all to the Delegates of the Clarendon Press Delegates of the Clarendon Press The governing board of Oxford University's publishing house., both for accepting this work and for providing special resources original: "facilities" for its completion.
