Names and Titles: Erya: The "Vaulted Azure" is the Azure Heaven. The shape of Heaven is vaulted and its color is azure, hence the name. Spring is the Azure Heaven. All things are growing in lush green. Summer is the Vast Heaven. It means the energy is bright and extensive. Autumn is the Compassionate Heaven. Compassionate means to pity; it pities all things as they wither and fall. Winter is the Upper Heaven. It means it is above, overlooking those below, and has nothing more to do. Mao Chang's Poetry Commentary: If it is honored as a ruler, it is called the Imperial Heaven. If its primordial energy is vast, it is called the Vast Heaven. If it covers and pities those below, it is called the Compassionate Heaven. If it descends and observes from above, it is called the Upper Heaven. If it is viewed from afar and appears deep blue, it is called the Azure Heaven. Huainanzi: The center is called the Balanced Heaven, with the stars Jiao, Kang, and Di. The east is called the Azure Heaven, with the stars Fang, Xin, and Wei. The northeast is called the Vast Heaven, with the stars Ji, Dou, and Qianniu.
