The Duke of Zhou original: 周公, named Dan original: 旦, was the younger brother of King Wu. When King Cheng was young, the Duke of Zhou served as the Chief Minister Zhongzai highest-ranking official in the Zhou government and acted as regent. When Guan and Cai spread rumors and incited rebellion, the Duke led an eastern military campaign to execute them.
Previously, when King Wu was ill, the Duke wrote a prayer ce bamboo slip document requesting to substitute his own life for the King's, and he had the document hidden in a golden-bound chest Jinteng lit. "Golden Casket". The King’s illness subsequently recovered. Later, when King Cheng discovered the document, he held it and wept, asking the Duke to return from the east. The Duke then wrote the book Wuyi Against Luxury to instruct him.
