Original Chinese title: Sancai Tuhui (三才圖會). The "Three Powers" (Sancai) refers to the traditional Chinese philosophical triad of Heaven, Earth, and Humanity, suggesting that this work encompasses all knowledge within the universe.
The image depicts the cover of a traditional Chinese thread-bound book. The cover is colored in a deep, dark blue with a white vertical title strip zhantiao; a paper strip pasted onto the cover of a Chinese book to display the title pasted on the left side. The title strip contains four large Chinese characters written in a formal regular script Also known as Kaishu, this is a clear, standard style of calligraphy. On the right edge, the white binding thread is clearly visible, showing a traditional four-hole stitching pattern used in historical Chinese bookbinding.
