A woodblock print portrait depicts a man identified as Cao Guohua. He is shown from the waist up. He wears a traditional official cap with small wing-like flaps at the sides. He has a prominent beard and mustache. His hands are tucked into the wide sleeves of his robe. This style is characteristic of portraiture found in Ming dynasty printed books. Cao Guohua was a military official during the Northern Song Dynasty. He is primarily remembered as the father of Empress Cao, who was the wife of Emperor Renzong.
