Li Hang (courtesy name Taichu A "courtesy name" was a secondary name given at adulthood, used by peers to show respect.) was a native of Feixiang in Luozhou. In the second year of the Chunhua era 991 CE, while presiding over the Personnel Bureau of the Ministry of Civil Appointments, he attended a private imperial banquet.
Emperor Taizong The second emperor of the Song Dynasty, who reigned from 976 to 997 CE. followed him with his gaze as he departed and remarked, "His bearing is so composed and dignified; he is truly a man of noble character."
During the Chanyuan Campaign A pivotal military conflict between the Song Dynasty and the Khitan Liao Empire in 1004–1005 CE., Li Hang was left in charge of the capital city. Under his watch, the populace remained solemn and disciplined, maintaining perfect order.
He was promoted through several high offices, eventually serving as the Vice Director of the Chancellery and the Right Vice Director of the Department of State Affairs. He passed away in the first year of the Jingde era 1004 CE at the age of fifty-eight.
Upon his death, the Emperor Emperor Zhenzong personally visited to mourn him twice, weeping for his loss, and suspended all imperial court sessions for five days in his honor. He was posthumously awarded the titles of Grand Commandant and Secretariat Director, and granted the posthumous name Wenjing original: "文靖"; a high honor meaning "Cultured and Serene.".
