Wubei Zhi (Vol. 55)

Use a piece of "cat bamboo" maozhu a type of thick, sturdy bamboo three feet long. Drill through it like a metal musket. Build the bottom solid with earth for one or two inches. At the point where the earth meets the bamboo, drill a hole to serve as the touchhole for the fuse line. Bind the outside tightly with iron wire and hemp thread, and secure it with a coating of tile ash and lacquer. Inside, apply a "swinging mixture" dangyao a coating of chemical ignition paste. Use one 1/10th and six 1/100ths of a tael of straight-grain gunpowder. Load one lead pellet. When aiming and firing, it is light and easy to maneuver. Those hit by it will die instantly. It is a weapon with two advantages likely referring to its portability and lethality.
