The ninth is called Ascension original: Ji (躋), which refers to halo vapors. Some say it refers to a rainbow. It is what the Classic of Poetry original: Shijing (詩經) means by "the morning rainbow ascending in the west."

The tenth is called Reflection original: Xiang (想), which refers to vapors that possess five colors and a discernible form.

• Green signifies famine.
• Red signifies war.
• White signifies mourning.
• Black signifies worry.
• Yellow signifies a ripe harvest.

It is also said that "Reflection" refers to the process of contemplation. When red vapors take the shape of humans or beasts, one can contemplate and reflect original: si (思) upon them to determine whether they represent good or bad fortune.

Furthermore, it is said: Vapors at the side of the sun are called Back-turning original: Bei (背); their shape resembles the character for "back" This refers to an arc that curves away from the sun, likely a circumzenithal or supralateral arc. When the sun is about to be eclipsed, there are first black transformations called Incursions original: Shi (適); implies a localized darkening or blemish preceding the eclipse.

A vapor shaped like red Man-jade original: Man (璊) is called The Red Gem. It is also written as The Chisel original: Juan (鑴); a variant of the term used on the previous page and is also known as Cave Vapor original: Xueqi (穴氣).

Vapor that curves toward the sun is called an Embrace original: Bao (抱). A shape appearing as a black dot is called an Ear Pendant original: Er (珥); while usually referring to sun dogs, here it is specified as a dark point or prominence.

Vapor located above the sun is called a Cap original: Guan (冠) or a Crown original: Dai (戴). When it is on the side and directly opposite, it is an Ear Pendant.

If the vapor is like an "ox ring" a circular nose-ring for livestock:

• Curving toward the sun, it is an Embrace.
• Curving outward, it is Back-turning.

If there is vapor that "stabs" or "pierces" the sun, it is The Chisel. The Chisel signifies "assisting in an injury" original: fushang (扶傷).

Regarding the Solar Crown original: Ridai (日戴): its shape is straight but slightly raised at the top. When it sits atop the sun, it is the Crown. The Crown represents Virtue original: De (德).
