If there are Ear-Jewels original: Er (珥); parhelia or "sun dogs" to both the left and right of the sun, a great wind will arise.
If an Ear-Jewel appears only to the right of the sun, high-ranking ministers will cause political disorder. Another interpretation states: if the color is reddish-black, the foreign tribes original: Yiren (夷人); a term historically used to refer to non-Han ethnic groups, often translated as "barbarians" in older texts will raise troops, and there will be rebels in the border towns original: Bianyis (邊邑); fortified settlements along the empire's frontiers.
If there are intersecting Ear-Jewels gathered in a single direction, many troops will be mobilized, but any armies currently deployed in the field will be recalled or cease their operations.
If many Ear-Jewels overlook the sun, there will be rain, and a visitor will arrive from the north to speak of regional affairs.
When blue and red vapors encircle and flank the sun, this is called an Embrace original: Bao (抱); a specific type of atmospheric halo or circumsolar arc. It is also said that when the vapors on the side are like half-rings facing toward the sun, this constitutes an Embrace. In such cases, the state will have cause for celebration.
Another interpretation states: if the sun or moon has an Embrace, other states will come to surrender. When two armies are facing one another, the side that "possesses" the Embrace Meaning the side whose geographical position aligns with the direction of the omen will be victorious. If two Embraces appear of equal size and intensity, the side whose omen fades away first will suffer defeat.
If a solar Embrace is yellowish-white and glossy original: Runze (潤澤); a shimmering, moist, or healthy luster, with red on the inside and blue on the outside, the Emperor will have cause for joy, and there will be peace marriages original: Heqin (和親); the historical practice of marriage alliances between the imperial family and foreign rulers to secure peace or foreign surrenders.
