In cases of encroachment similar to those mentioned above, this is called Slandering the Ruler original: Wujun (誣君). If, during such an eclipse, there are clouds in the four cardinal directions but the center remains clear, that day will be marked by Great Cold.
When high officials specifically the "Dukes" or high nobility seek to weaken the Sovereign’s position, this is called Ignorance original: Buzhi (不知) — implying a lack of awareness of proper station. If the eclipse appears blue-white in the center while the four sides are red, an earthquake will occur once the eclipse has concluded.
When feudal lords invade one another, this is called Failing to Support original: Bucheng (不承). During the eclipse, the light will fail and return three times suggesting a flickering or fluctuating appearance.
When the ruler is ill and subordinates are skilled at appearing humble while plotting against those above, this is called Disorder original: Luan (亂). Once the eclipse is complete, there will first be rain and hail of such intensity that it kills wild beasts.
Assassinating the ruler to seize the throne is called Rebellion original: Ni (逆). Once the eclipse is complete, there will first be wind and rain strong enough to snap trees, and the sun will appear a deep red.
When inner ministers look toward external powers implying collusion with outside factions or foreign states, this is called Betrayal original: Bei (背). During the eclipse, it will rain, and a rumbling sound will echo from within the earth.
When the Prime Minister original: Zhongzai (冢宰) arbitrarily launches military expeditions, this is called Usurpation original: Yin (因). When the eclipse begins, there is first a great wind, and during the duration of the eclipse, the sun remains obscured within the clouds...
