People say that painting has six principles Referring to the Six Principles of Painting by Xie He, and from ancient times, few could fully satisfy them. Tanwei possessed all the required methods; he exhausted the principles and fully realized the nature of things. His work transcended language and form, encompassing both the past and the future. He stands alone in history. He is truly the standard and the mirror for ten thousand generations. Critics generally rank Gu [Kaizhi], Lu [Tanwei], and [Zhang] Sengyou as the top tier.
