172, the arrival at Rouen
of the Brazilians. This refers to the "Brazilian Festival" of 1550, where the city of Rouen staged a massive recreation of a Brazilian village, including around 50 indigenous Tupinambá people and 250 French sailors dressed as natives, to showcase France's trade links and colonial ambitions to King Henri II.
A printed bookplate for the "John Carter Brown Library, Brown University" is pasted into the center of the page. It features an armorial crest. The central shield is divided by a chevron and contains three birds (possibly hawks or martlets). Above the shield is a helmet with elaborate floral mantling, topped by a crest showing a fox or wolf's head. Below the shield, a ribbon contains the motto: "I rejoice" original Latin: "GAUDEO".
