Regarding the manuscripts dependent on P, two groups are to be distinguished: the copies made before the five quaternions containing the greater part of Paedagogus I were lost and before the hand of the 14th or 15th century corrected the manuscript, and the copies made after the loss and the correction. To the first group belong No. 1 and 2, to the second group No. 3 and 4 of the following index. In it, all hitherto known manuscripts of the Protrepticus and Paedagogus are listed. Since only No. 1 and 2 are relevant for textual criticism, a more detailed description seemed necessary only for these. For all others, which originate entirely from the 15th or 16th century, I refer to Barnard, Texts and Studies V 2, p. XV—XIX, and my Beiträge zur Kenntnis der HSS des Clem. Al. original: "Contributions to the knowledge of the manuscripts of Clement of Alexandria" p. 7—21. There, the closer evidence of the relationship can also be found for most manuscripts.
Tracing back to P:
1. Mut. III. D. 7 (= M). Contains Protr., Paed. Used by Victorius.
a) Monac. gr. 97. Contains only Protr. and was used by Victorius. See the proof in TuU original: "Texte und Untersuchungen" N.F. V, 4c p. 3 f.
b) Valicell. F 33 (now No. 91). Contains only Protr. up to "we prefer to idolatry" (p. 69, 24). The derivation from M is proven by the fact that marginal notes by later hands in M were carried over, for example, the scholion on Berossus (p. 50, 2), on "O, by the truth" (p. 51, 17).
c) Ottob. 94 in part. Contains Protr., Paed. Of this, Protr. goes back to M; Paed. is only corrected according to M.
2. Laur. V 24 (= F). Contains Paed. Used by Victorius.
a) Bodl. 39. } Used by Potter. {B in Dindorf.
b) Mus. Brit. Reg. 16. D. XVII. } {R in Dindorf.
c) Paris. gr. 452. } N. le Nourry used one of these manuscripts.
d) Paris. gr. 587. }
e) Venet. Marc. 652 (now Supplement Class. XI Cod. IV). Copied from this:
Vatic. Palat. 86 (from the year 1549). Used by Sylburg; Pal. in Dindorf.
f) Neap. II. AA. 14.
g) Ottob. 94 in part; see 1 c.
h) Paris. Suppl. Graec. 254 for Paed. I 1—96. In contrast,
