1903, pp. 643–656. The name of the scribe and owner is repeated twice more on the same leaf; cf. Gebhardt (op. cit.), p. 165, n. 16. On the same page, there are four more years: ,ςωπθ' = 1381, ,ςωπγ' = 1375, ,ςωξθ' = 1361, ,ςωκδ' = 1316.
On f. 403v there are two more signatures: "This book is finished very happily, five quaternions were missing," and from another hand (both likely from the 15th century): "This book belongs to the monk Meletius, who lives miserably and is an unworthy priest" (cf. Schwartz, Athenag. praef., p. IV). Below it is the number νδ' 54; thus, it seems that at first only six of the 60 quaternions had been lost.
The manuscript shows many corrections. Baanes himself corrected many errors that he had made while writing. Then Arethas read through the entire codex carefully, supplemented many missing accents and breathings, and otherwise improved or changed much. The question of whether he used a manuscript for this, whether the exemplar of P or another manuscript, is not easy to answer1. The immensely numerous orthographic improvements that any reader knowledgeable in Greek could make do not come into consideration for a decision. Thus, for example, Arethas correctly improves ἐπιτελοῦς at the end p. 33, 29 instead of ἐπὶ τέλους; βιοῦμεν we live 171, 20 instead of βίου μὲν; ἐπεὶ since 151, 33; 192, 15; 224, 7; 274, 22 instead of ἐπὶ; and ἐπὶ 198, 19 instead of ἐπεὶ; φορεῖα litters 252, 10 instead of φορία; παιδιὰ play 277, 24 instead of παιδεία education, and παιδιᾶς 279, 4 instead of παιδείας; πρωτοκλισίαν chief position at table 156, 22 instead of πρωτοκλησίαν (conversely, πιστὴν 223, 13 instead of πίστιν is wrong); εἰ if 174, 26 instead of ἢ or; καταλειπτέον to be left behind 184, 25 instead of καταληπτέον to be apprehended; ἤιδει he knew 192, 26 instead of ἤδη already; χρήζετε you need 219, 14 instead of χρείζετε; ἐνδύσασθαι to put on 182, 1 instead of ἐνδύσασθε; cf. 197, 16; 211, 21; 219, 1 (wrong 214, 21); καταιονεῖσθαι 263, 29 instead of κατεονεῖσθαι; ἐστὲ you are 224, 9 instead of ἔσται it will be (wrong αἱ 43, 31 instead of ἢ); ἦσεν 194, 2 instead of ἦισεν; νεοττιᾶς of a nest 161, 31 instead of νεοττίας; ἐρωτᾶι he asks 196, 4 instead of ἔρωτα love; τίμα honor 198, 26 instead of τιμᾶι; ῥοδίνωι rose-colored 197, 8 instead of ῥοδεινῶι; ἀγεννείας nobility 192, 14 instead of ἀγενείας ignobility; ἀπολλύουσιν they destroy 200, 2 instead of ἀπολύουσιν they set free (wrong ἀπολύωμεν 219, 15 instead of ἀπολλύωμεν; περινίσεται 57, 3 instead of περινίσσεται); σικίννοις dance rhythms 253, 22 instead of σικίνοις; κάλει call 23, 28 instead of κάλλει beauty; αὐτῆι to her 207, 25 instead of αὐτὴ she; νεκρᾶι to the dead 45, 12 instead of νεκρὰ; cf. 32, 17f; 45, 11, 13; 167, 27f; 172, 10; 184, 12; 267, 5 (wrong 192, 4; 223, 17). Changes such as ἀφείλετο 166, 7 and εἵλετο 224, 13 instead of ἀφείλατο and εἵλατο certainly also stem from Arethas; λαγὼν 208, 21 and 210, 30 instead of λαγὼ; ἀφίενται 194, 8 instead of ἀφέωνται; ἔην 27, 3 instead of θην.
