staying in Heliopolis of Egypt, he saw the solar eclipse that occurred at the time of the Savior's cross, which happened in the eighteenth year of the reign of Tiberius. For in the fifteenth year, our Lord Jesus Christ began His preaching, as is revealed in the holy Gospel according to Luke. After preaching for three years and a few months, the Master Christ and our God willingly suffers, so that it is the 18th year of Tiberius. Tiberius reigned for about 23 years, so that from the Savior’s passion until the death of Tiberius, there are 6 years. The holy apostle and evangelist John was exiled to the island of Patmos, which is one of the Cyclades islands, around the last year of the reign of Domitian; he reigned for 15 years and 5 months. From the 18th year of Tiberius, when the eclipse occurred, until the death of Domitian, there are about 64 years and 7 months. Let us also posit that the divine Dionysius was 25 years old when he saw the events at the Lord's cross, which I believe he was still reading, so that in total it is about 90 years. Irenaeus, in the third and fifth books of his work against heresies, mentions the exile of the holiest John the Theologian under Domitian; and Clement of Alexandria, in his discourse "Who is the Rich Man That is Being Saved?", in which he also speaks of the bandit leader who had been converted. Thus, the missing years of Tiberius, Gaius, Claudius, Nero, Vespasian, Titus, and Domitian are filled. The Father says to the holy evangelist John the Theologian, with whom he corresponded in writing, "What is wonderful if Christ speaks the truth, and the unjust persecute the holy ones, doing this worthily both to themselves and to the holy ones? To themselves, because they are not worthy of their company; and to the holy ones, because they cause the holy things to be kept undefiled from their communion."
