THE SUTRAS USED IN THE EIGHTH CENTURY.

List of the sutras, in chronological order.

The sutras used in the eighth century correspond to the following numbers in Nanjo’s Catalog of the Buddhist Canon original: Tripiṭaka.


1) No. 127	A.D. 702, 703, 705, 725, 728, (747), 749, 806.	Golden Light Sutra original: Konkwōmyōkyō	金光明經	Sutra of Golden Light original: Suvarṇa-prabhāsa sūtra, translated between 414 and 423 AD by Dharmaraksha II; 4 volumes original: fascicles, 19 chapters. See Chapter I, Section 1, No. 8; Section 8; and Chapter VIII, Section 7.
2) No. 126	A.D. 725, 734, 737, 738, (739), 741, 743, 745, (747), 749, 758, 767, 769, 782, 789, 802, 804.	Sutra of the Sovereign Kings of Golden Light original: Konkwōmyō-Sai-shōōkyō. See also the Sutra for the Ripening of the Five Grains original: Gokoku-jōjuku-kyō, July 14, 739 AD (mentioned in Chapter VIII, Section 15 regarding the Ritual of Repentance for the Goddess of Fortune original: Kichijō-kekwa).	金光明最勝王經 (Cf. 五穀成就經)	The same sutra as above, translated between 700 and 712 AD by I-tsing also spelled Yi Jing. 10 volumes original: fascicles, 31 chapters. Medicine Master Sutra original: Yakushikyō	藥師經	Sutra on the Vows of the Medicine Master Tathagata original: Bhaiṣajyaguru-Tathāgata-pūrvapraṇidhāna-sūtra, translated in 650 AD by Xuanzang original: Hüen-tsang (1 volume original: fascicle).
