being sailing along the coast
A detailed maritime map or nautical chart represents a portion of the English coast. The land area is labeled "England" and "Coast of England," featuring illustrations of coastal towns with churches, scattered trees, and grazing cattle. To the left is a highly ornate, Mannerist-style architectural cartouche; within its central circular roundel, the engraver is identified. The sea is depicted with a repetitive wave pattern and includes three finely detailed three-masted sailing vessels at different orientations. A large, decorative 32-point compass rose is situated in the lower right, with rhumb lines extending across the water. These lines are labeled with cardinal and ordinal directions in Dutch. The map is framed by a decorative chain-link style border on the top and right edges.
