An engraved portrait of Bernard Forest de Belidor is set within an oval stone frame. The subject is a middle aged man wearing a powdered wig, armor, and a sash with the cross of the Order of Saint Louis. The oval frame rests on a rectangular pedestal which contains a short poem. In the background, a window and a draped curtain are visible. This image captures the image of the Enlightenment engineer as both a soldier and a man of science.
Painted by L. Vigée
Engraved by J. G. Will in 1750.
