Reminded, because things turned out such for my very good and dear friend, Mr. Heinrich Zeising, now deceased, that neither could he himself satisfy this proverb, nor did he leave behind such heirs who could fulfill and perform his promise.
For after he published the first part of his Theatri Machinarum Theater of Machines in print three years ago, in which he explained both artistically and clearly all sorts of machinas machines by which every heavy load can be moved, raised, weighed, pulled, and brought or transported from one place to another, and placed them before the eyes with accompanying copper engravings so clearly that everyone can easily understand, grasp, and put them to use, he promised at the end of such a book to publish this second part as well and bring it to light, in which he would deal with all sorts of water arts, mill-works, and other similar useful machines, in such manner as
