Now, I wish to present here in the beginning a Machinam machine, which is pulled and driven by two persons alone without the aid of any wheel, as can be seen in the copperplate No. 1.
A decorative drop cap letter "D" features intricate scrollwork and foliate patterns.This machine or apparatus I can surely call nothing other than a very simple hand-mill, since it is, firstly, without any wheel, driven only by two persons, and a great deal of flour can be made thereby in one day. Its description and declaration are as follows: A frame is built from strong oak wood (A, E), upon which two strong timbers (V, X) are attached very firmly with iron rings, yet in such a way that they can be moved easily. To these two timbers are fastened two iron rods, which lie against the iron-cranked rod upon which the millstone (Z) rests. When the grain is then poured into the hopper (B), and the two men begin to push the two timbers strongly
