Chap. I. The method of dissecting the brain, or Anatomical Administration is proposed. Pag. 1
The structure of the brain, as having many tubers compacted together, ought to be explained and unfolded before it is cut into parts, p. 2. For the knowledge of it, it is necessary to dissect heads of every kind, and thus to institute a comparative anatomy, p. 4. The dissection of the head is proposed, p. 5. The two meninges with their vessels should be observed first, p. 7. The prow of the brain being raised, and the structure reclined, the nerves and the following vessels are to be noted and cut in order, p. 8 to 12, viz. the mammillary processes, the optic nerves, the infundibulum, the carotid arteries, the motor nerves of the eyes, the fourth pair, the fifth pair, the sixth pair, the auditory nerves, the vagus or eighth pair, the ninth pair, the tenth pair, the vertebral arteries, and the jugular veins; then the structure of the brain, having been removed from the skull, should be inspected; in the upper part of which, the brain so called and the cerebellum appear; at its base, the medulla oblongata; all of which the pia meninx invests, p. 13. The arteries covering this meninx are described, p. 14. Venous propagations, sent down from the sinuses into the pia mater, meet the arteries and are variously intertwined with them, p. 15. The pia meninx gathers all the anfractuosities of the brain and covers their hiatus
