THE
GNOSTIC
BRUCE
PAPYRUS.
the leaves in order, aided by the pro memoria memorandum of Woïde. As this pro memoria is one of the foundations of my classification, I could do no better than to cite it here just as it is written at the beginning of this scholar's copy.
63. WOIDE. Liber Gnosis Sahidice M. S. WOIDII Apograph. Ex bod. Ms. BRUCE. Book of Gnosis in Sahidic [dialect], Manuscript Copy by Woïde. From the Bodleian Manuscript BRUCE.
The beginning of the manuscript is present twice, and the number X B 12 is lost on the first folio, but it exists on the third, G and D 3 and 4; it can truly be gathered from the other beginning of the book that these leaves should be joined. The leaves that follow are separate and must be arranged in order. Yet in these leaves are the same characters as in the following leaves which cohere, and the first of which begins with the word ΕΤϩΙΧΕΝ Coptic: "and when/since" and the following leaf then has at the end of the first page the title ΠΧΩΩΜΕ ΜΠΝΟϬ ΝΛΟΓΟϹ ΚΑΤΑ ΜΥϹΤΗΡΙΟΝ Coptic: "The Great Book of the Logos according to the Mystery", which all still cohere, up to the leaf that ends with ωωωωω. Then follow leaves of a larger character and better written, which cohere among themselves. Six leaves then follow written in the same character but very tattered, so that most are missing. Then 15 leaves which treat of ΙΕΟΥ Ieou from the first ΙΕΟΥ up to KH 28, the twenty-eighth is a single leaf enclosed by lines at the margin, tattered, more recent, and it seems written by another hand and incorrectly.
The beginning of the book is this: ΑΙΜΕΡΕ ΤΗΥΤΝ ΑΙΟΥΩϘ ΝΗΤΝ ΜΠΩΝϩ ⲒϹ ΠΕΤΩΝϩ ΠΕΤϹΟΟΥΝ ΝΤΜΕ. Coptic: "I have loved you, I have desired for you the life of Jesus, the Living One, the Knower of the Truth."
12 leaves exist, I am doubtful how they should be arranged. Two hands wrote them 1.
6 leaves. Second beginning of the book, the title of which I have just cited. The last four leaves must be arranged; the first two are certainly to be joined 2.
14 leaves cohere 3. On the second leaf appears the title ΠΧΩΩΜΕ ΜΠΝΟϬ Coptic: "The Great Book"
