A decorative drop cap 'C' features floral and scrollwork patterns.Since I had for a long time been troubled in spirit regarding the propagation of the cult of the Great Mother of God on Monte Eustachiano, and was considering the construction of five wayside chapels for the devotion of pilgrims, and since I lacked the funds for the execution of the work; behold, Your Excellency, having discerned my intention regarding the conceived work (assuredly by the inspiration of Him whose honor was at stake), even without being asked, did not disdain to assist with unusual and unexpected liberality, and did not cease to urge me to pursue the execution of the pious work; for you pledged to me that you would not be found wanting in the expenses, whatever they might eventually turn out to be. And you fulfilled this without any procrastination through your agent in the City. Therefore, lest I appear in any way ungrateful to so great and truly magnificent a patron, and since nothing else occurred to me at present except the small work entitled: The Museum of the Roman College of the Society of JESUS, constructed by me and described, by my order, in full faith by Georgius de Sepibus, Curator of the Museum and my craftsman in the building of machines,
