A copperplate engraving depicts the philosopher Benedictus Spinoza from the chest up, presented in a three-quarter profile facing the viewer. He possesses dark, shoulder-length wavy hair and dark eyes. He is dressed in a dark doublet with small buttons and a plain, rectangular white collar known as a rabat. The portrait is enclosed within a simple rectangular frame surrounded by a wide border of dense vertical hatching. Below the portrait, a rectangular plaque bears the subject's name. An engraver's signature is visible in the bottom-left corner, outside the main border.
