A high-quality copperplate engraving portrait of the philosopher Benedictus Spinoza. He is depicted in three-quarter view, facing left but looking towards the viewer. He has long, dark, curly hair, a light mustache, and is dressed in a dark doublet with a broad white collar (rabat) characteristic of 17th-century Dutch attire. The portrait is set within a rectangular frame. This central image is enclosed in a larger, highly textured border featuring a basket-weave pattern. At the bottom of the portrait, integrated into the border design, is a rectangular tablet bearing the subject's name in capital letters.
