An elaborate allegorical title page border features architectural elements and mythological figures. At the top center, a circular medallion shows three seated figures representing the continents of Asia, Europe, and Africa. They sit above the abbreviation S.P.Q.R., which stands for the Senate and People of Rome. Around the rim is the name of a Roman official, Marcus Cocceius Nerva. On the left side stands a full-length figure of Neptune holding a trident and a dolphin. On the right side stands a full-length figure of Cybele, an earth goddess, wearing a turreted crown and holding a drum. At the bottom left is a small scene of a bull on a mountain peak representing the Taurus Mountains. At the bottom right is a bearded man representing the Atlas Mountains. In the bottom center, a circular illustration shows the river god of the Nile reclining and surrounded by children. In the lower center, the printer's mark of the Plantin press shows a hand emerging from a cloud holding a compass, accompanied by the motto "By Labor and Constancy." Small grotesque masks and floral garlands decorate the borders.
