A large ornamental drop cap "E" decorated with floral and leaf motifs.Since experience has uncovered the new structure of the fibra motrix motive fiber, not only has the structure of those muscles already known—hitherto considered by no one—begun to be understood, but a way has also been opened to investigate the knowledge of those muscles which no one until now has been able to properly prepare or distinctly explain. It has been almost three years since I published a light specimen of this in the heart, tongue, esophagus, and a few others, though without figures: now, in other muscles, both those previously noted and those hitherto almost unknown, I will illustrate the same through figures, to be brought forward here for the purpose that the geometric system of muscles, which I am about to propose here, may be seen to be not concocted by genius, but drawn from experience.

And this is truly a small something of the Elements
