Author condemned and the work permitted original: "Author damnatus & op⁹ p'missu." This is a censorship mark from the Spanish Inquisition. It indicates that while Vossius was a Protestant author whose general works were restricted, this specific textbook on rhetoric was cleared for use.

A printer's mark for Joannes Maire depicts a man in a landscape digging the earth with a spade. A circular emblem surrounds him.
