the institution and ordinance of our Lord Jesus Christ: who have houses full of rapine, and hands bloody with cruelties. Those, too, are criminals of human leze Maiesté treason against the monarch, who have violated the Edicts of the King, approached and seized his person with arms, against his command: who are intimate friends, and make use in this act of those who have wished, by ravishing the second person of France a reference to the royal succession or high-ranking nobility, to oppress the King and put his state into confusion and ruin. And if one must go further, I say that those are criminals of leze Maiesté treason who have recently carried out a cursed conspiracy in Provence through the hands of Lauris, president in the Court of Parliament of Aix, conjoined with Fabrice Cerbelonne, governor of Avignon for the Pope, tending toward the goal of assembling fifteen thousand men who would march (as they swore) by the command of the said Lord of Guise. Of which the said Fabrice was providing one thousand foot soldiers and two hundred horse. Which conspiracy having come to light and been verified by the Court of Parliament of Provence, Entrages and Laidet, two principal captains of this faction, had their heads severed by a judgment rendered in the said Court. And if this is not enough, I will add further that the said men of Guise have made a similar plot in Dauphiné, through Captain Mantil, hoping by this means to arm Dauphiné along with Provence, to make the whole together march to their devotion.
