to abolish the preaching of the Gospel, these levies of men, and this oath to march at the command of the sieur de Guyse Lord of Guise, cry out aloud that both the said Guise and his conspirators are rebels, seditious, and criminals of divine and human leze Maiesté treason. Conversely, those are the true and faithful servants of the King who have opposed, and continue to oppose, their rebellions, seditions, and attacks against the Majesty of the King and the state of this entire Kingdom. As proof of this, beyond what I have already said, consider the overturning of the police and justice of this Kingdom, and even of the Court of Parliament in Paris. They have made use of it in this false and pernicious judgment of rebellion, for they could not find any other company so corrupt, depraved, and so servile and enslaved to their own wills and appetites as that one. In fact, all those who remain there today either hold their positions through the favor of the said men of Guise and their adherents, or hope to obtain others through their means. Even the principals among them are notoriously included in the conspiracy and league made by the said men of Guise and their adherents, of which we feel the miserable and calamitous effects today. One must truly confess that among all the rods with which God has long beaten this poor and afflicted Kingdom, one must count this one as the greatest: that such a Court of Parliament, which ought to be the seat of justice and the refuge of the oppressed,
