be continued to us, at least for ten years: that the payment for them be made at least from quarter to quarter, without default, and on the spot: and that the funds may not be diverted from the places and the revenues, under any pretext whatsoever, until the said quarter is paid. That a regulation be taken and obtained for the provision of vacant governorships, given the abuses that have been committed there, and can be committed there, to the prejudice of our security. That it be permitted to maintain and fortify the said places, which through time are falling into decay, and for lack of this will be useless to us. That it is necessary to complain that, under the shadow of the said governorships, they refuse us all other charges and dignities, against the express article of the Edict that admits us to them. That resignations of the said places should not be admitted except by the consent of the Churches, whose security is at stake: the same for the Councilors and Presidents of the Chambers.
