That the general assembly be granted every two years: whether for the renewal of the general deputies, or to advise on the instructions that must be given to them. That it be expressly specified that our deputies be ordinarily at Court at the King's expense, in the number of two, named by the said assembly. The goal of these Gentlemen was diverse. That of du Plessis Philippe du Plessis-Mornay, a prominent Protestant statesman was sincere; that of the Marshal de Lesdiguières, as he showed throughout his life, tended only to his particular interest: as also that of the Marshal de Bouillon, who used the authority of the others to turn everything to his profit.
